5 reasons to move to Oxford

Oxford is known as “the city of dreaming spires” and with a name like that you might think it is idyllic. Well we think it is, and here are a small selection of the reasons why.

What Oxford has to offer:

  1. The University – Oxford University has been consistently in the top 10 Universities in the world for decades. In the UK, it is rivalled by Cambridge University alone. The University is the oldest in the English-speaking world with teaching taking place since at least 1096. There is a good balance between undergraduate and postgraduate learning and most courses allow for diversity after the initial year as interests can change. The University is also one of the largest employers in the city.
  2. The schools – Oxford is well known for its educational facilities, but these do not stop at the University. Many families move to Oxford solely for the schooling of their children. With schools including The Dragon, Oxford High School, St Edwards, Magdalen College School, Summerfields, Christ Church Cathedral School, New College School, Cherwell School, St Philip and St James C of E School within the city limits there is an almost endless choice to ensure the right education for your children.
  3. The architecture – Given that teaching has been taking place in Oxford since at least 1096, it is no surprise that there is some fairly impressive architecture. St George’s Tower, Christ Church Cathedral, Church of St Mary the Virgin, Divinity School, Sheldonian Theatre, Radcliffe Camera, Radcliffe Observatory, Ashmolean Museum are fine examples of architecture through the centuries and, in more recent years, notable additions include Florey Building, Said Business School and Blavatnik building. There are beautiful buildings to discover everywhere you look and hours or even days can be spent exploring.
  4. The housing – the architecture of the city doesn’t stop with its famous buildings. The variety of housing as the city has sprawled over the centuries will please architecture buffs and offer choice to those looking to live here as well. From canal-side living in the city’s new-build developments to the Victorian terraces of Jericho and large detached houses of North Oxford there is something for everyone. 5. The nature – the green belt has meant that development has been kept in check within the Oxford city limits. You can walk 10 minutes from the city centre in almost any direction and feel like you are in the country. University Parks, Christ Church Meadows, Port Meadow, Bury Knowle Park, South Park, Cutteslowe Park, Wolvercote Lakes, The River Thames and the Oxford Canal are just a few of the tranquil and picturesque natural beauties to find and enjoy.
